Mr. Devinder Singh Gulati presented a philosophical argument and proceeded to its conclusion without any inquiry about its foundational idea. He shared a photo image of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs showing that man has physiological or basic needs.

To begin the discussion, he has to describe those physiological needs to account for man’s satisfaction, satiation, or contentment when those needs are fulfilled.

Islam is True Religion for it says, “Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem” to acknowledge God’s Unconditioned Love called Mercy and Compassion. Fundamentally, man’s physical existence depends upon God’s Grace, Mercy, and Compassion.

God’s Grace is sufficient for me and it meets all of my needs apart from physiological needs. Self-Realization, Self-Actualization and God-Realization simply means knowing God’s Grace, Mercy, and Compassion as True Knowledge of God.

Philosophic argument aims at seeking truth. It brooks no a priori assumptions.

In the previous link we looked at one such assumption in the matter of false religion.

The argument offered however remained inconclusive.

A philosophic inquiry looks at all relevant facts and ties up the ideas.
The philosophic method connects up a procession of ideas.
In the process totality is embraced by constantly enlarging the inquiry.
It is a methodical process of reasoning.
Reasoning employs argument.

Every argument has three limbs.
1. Statement of a fact (idea).
2. Show the incompleteness of the fact (presence of another idea).
3. Arrive at judgement if that fact is properly related or not.

The judgement takes two forms.
1. Form of probability.
2. Form of conclusivity.

In the previous link an assumption was made about false religion:

The assumption was:
“Thus, it may be stated that the basic message of false religion is that Allah may be worshipped in the form of His creation.”

In the same link another idea was introduced:

When the idol worshipper is questioned as to why he or she bows down to idols created by men, the invariable reply is that they are not actually worshipping the stone image, but Allah who is present within it. They claim that the stone idol is only a focal point for Allah’s essence and is not in itself Allah! One who has accepted the concept of the presence of God’s being within His creation in any way will be obliged to accept this argument of idolatry. Whereas, one who understands the basic message of Islam and its implications would never concede to idolatry no matter how it is rationalized. Those who have claimed divinity for themselves down through the ages have often based their claims on the mistaken belief that Allah is present in man. They merely had to assert that although Allah according to their false beliefs, is in all of us, He is more present in them than in the rest of us. Hence, they claim, we should submit our will to them and worship them as they are either God in person or God concentrated within the person.
One who has grasped the basic message of Islam and its implications could never agree to worship another human being under any circumstances.


It was not argued on what rational basis the practice of idolatry is to be rejected except to say:

Thus, the final Prophet of Islam is reported to have said, “Any one who says: There is no god but Allah and dies holding that (belief) will enter paradise”.(Reported by Abu Dharr and collected by Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim).

There is as we can see no conclusion. The probability of divinity in the creation is left hanging, unresolved.

Here is an assumption:

False religions all have in common one basic concept with regards to Allah. They either claim that all men are gods or that specific men were Allah or that nature is Allah or that Allah is a figment of man’s imagination.
Thus, it may be stated that the basic message of false religion is that Allah may be worshipped in the form of His creation. False religion invites man to the worship of creation by calling the creation or some aspect of it God. For example, prophet Jesus invited his followers to worship Allah but those who claim to be his followers today call people to worship Jesus, claiming that he was Allah!
Buddha was a reformer who introduced a number of humanistic principles to the religion of India. He did not claim to be God nor did he suggest to his followers that he be an object of worship. Yet, today most Buddhists who are to be found outside of India have taken him to be God and prostrate to idols made in their perception of his likeness.
By using the principle of identifying the object of worship, false religion becomes very obvious and the contrived nature of their origin clear. As God said in the Our’aan:
That which you worship besides Him are only names you and your forefathers have invented for which Allah has sent down no authority: The command belongs only to Allah:
He has commanded that you only worship Him; that is the right religion, but most men do not understand “. (Soorah Yoosuf 12:40)


Consequently, the worship of creation, which is the essence of idolatry, is the only unforgivable sin. One who dies in this state of idolatry has sealed his fate in the next life. This is not an opinion, but a revealed fact stated by Allah in his final revelation to man:

“Verily Allah will not forgive the joining of partners with Him, but He may forgive (sins) less than that for whom so ever He wishes”(Soorah An- Nisaa 4:48 and 116)

The True Religion

The assumption here is that only Islam is true and the entire argument aims at proving that all other religions are false.
It is not an exercise into inquiring “what is true”.

Where does this argument originate?
It originates in the Koran:
[5:44] We have sent down the Torah,* containing guidance and light. Ruling in accordance with it were the Jewish prophets, as well as the rabbis and the priests, as dictated to them in GOD‘s scripture, and as witnessed by them. Therefore, do not reverence human beings; you shall reverence Me instead. And do not trade away My revelations for a cheap price. Those who do not rule in accordance with GOD‘s revelations, are the disbelievers.
[5:45] And we decreed for them in it that: the life for the life, the eye for the eye, the nose for the nose, the ear for the ear, the tooth for the tooth, and an equivalent injury for any injury. If one forfeits what is due to him as a charity, it will atone for his sins. Those who do not rule in accordance with GOD‘s revelations are the unjust.
[5:46] Subsequent to them, we sent Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming the previous scripture, the Torah. We gave him the Gospel, containing guidance and light, and confirming the previous scriptures, the Torah, and augmenting its guidance and light, and to enlighten the righteous.
[5:47] The people of the Gospel shall rule in accordance with GOD‘s revelations therein. Those who do not rule in accordance with GOD‘s revelations are the wicked.
[5:48] Then we revealed to you this scripture, truthfully, confirming previous scriptures, and superseding them. You shall rule among them in accordance with GOD‘s revelations, and do not follow their wishes if they differ from the truth that came to you. For each of you, we have decreed laws and different rites. Had GOD willed, He could have made you one congregation. But He thus puts you to the test through the revelations He has given each of you. You shall compete in righteousness. To GOD is your final destiny—all of you—then He will inform you of everything you had disputed.
[5:49] You shall rule among them in accordance with GOD‘s revelations to you. Do not follow their wishes, and beware lest they divert you from some of GOD‘s revelations to you. If they turn away, then know that GOD wills to punish them for some of their sins. Indeed, many people are wicked.
[5:50] Is it the law of the days of ignorance that they seek to uphold? Whose law is better than GOD‘s for those who have attained certainty?

The entire drift here is; you are intended to prevail over all other religions for yours alone is the true religion.
It is this aspect that the Khudai Khidmatgar must concentrate on,… reforming untrue belief.
They have burdened themselves with superficial work.
They make statements quite contrary to the the spirit of Koran, perhaps deliberately.
“Faisal khan expressed his deep sorrow over the killings of innocent people in Pakistan. He further added that the Terrorism is not pertinent to any particular religion or community but comes from the brainwashing of some people by the power hungry men. He also said that the best way to be secure from the menace of terrorism is to spread love and brotherhood in the society.”

It is evident that terrorism flows directly from the teaching of the Koran.
[5:51] O you who believe, do not take certain Jews and Christians as allies; these are allies of one another. Those among you who ally themselves with these belong with them. GOD does not guide the transgressors.


Faisal must concentrate on the essential.
The essential is reform of Islam.
That is the way to spread love and brotherhood.

There are two basic tracts of facts. There are physical facts and psychological facts.

You are accounting only for the physical in saying: Essence (What You Are) is known by What You Do to support the fact of Existence.
Man’s Existence demands verification also of the basis of his psychology.
You are not dealing with psychology at all.
Your statement cannot be said to be philosophical statement since it limps on one side.
You are relating only one side.

The concept of essence, what is it?
What is essential.
What is ultimate?
You cannot find it without totality.

You start your search with an assumption:

Man’s Essence demands verification of the basis of his Existence.
And existence you assume to be physical.

Even “there is essence” is an assumption.
In short you are being incorrigible.
You are saying your thinking cannot be bettered.

You are being arbitrary.

The argument lacks rationality.
You are not asking the question “what is reason for life”.

He served in the Regiment of Artillery but conducted an Infantry style assault on Enemy during 1971 War. He conducted Friday Worship Service for the entire Muslim community of Kaptai officiating as the Priest. He worked in JNU teaching Arabic Language and later served in Bahrain as Official Translator for their Department of National Archives. While he served in Egypt, both President Nasser and President Sadat treated him as their personal friend and valued his Islamic Scholarship.

One of the best ways of understanding the Transcendental is to understand the concept of essence. One of the examples given to understand the word essence is: gold is the same in this ornament or that ornament; the two ornaments differ from each other not in the goldness but in the form of the ornaments. There is a distinction between the essence of the ornament and the form of the ornament. Even if in the ornament the forms are broken the gold remains, just as when a pot may be broken, the form may be broken but the clay remains. So the Transcendental is that which is the essence, which always remains what it is, which may take many forms but which is not depending upon the forms. If you examine the question of forms, you will find that forms are spread out, all forms have some kind of special extension and they are spread out. The pot has a certain size, certain shape, it is spread out and the highest spacing out is the entire space. The whole of space, the whole of time, the totality of space and time is what is called Universal. The Transcendental is the essence and the Universal is the totality of space and time. Any particular form in space and time is called a particular. Any particular formation, for example, my golden ornaments, all of them are particular.

Now Islamic theology has it that man can never get to the essence of his creation. That is also the preceding Christian position that was known to the writer of the Koran. [The Jewish position in the Torah remains indeterminate].

The Vedic position is that each one of us was at one time in this particular state. In the highest condition the individual is free, the individual is one with the Supreme, he is aware of his oneness with the Supreme, he is aware of his universality.That it is possible to get back to our original condition.

So who would be the receiver of Divine Truth best in a position to make an undistorted transcription?
The one who has universalised his mind. In Islam the individual is always limited, That means he cannot universalize himself.

In the Veda [and in Gurbani] there is a special kind of formation �”� which you call individual [soul]. The speciality of the individual formation is that it is of the nature of a centration. There is a difference between particularisation and centration. You take any particular form, each particular form excludes the other form and every particular form has a certain limit, a boundary. But a centration is a centre whose circumference is everywhere, in other words whose circumference can shift, it is not especially exclusive. It is a centre of a very special nature, it is a centre in which the Transcendental is fully present and whose boundaries are so flexible that they can go on expanding and they can fill the whole of the universe. So every individual has this great capacity to become Universal. In fact one of the great messages of the highest wisdom is: “be wide, be Universal”. You can be Universal only if you are capable of universality and this would mean that whatever limitations you have are flexible. This is not true of the particulars. Of each particular object there is a limitation; the moment you expand it, that form breaks down, it no more remains. In the case of the individual this breaking down does not happen, you can expand, become as wide as the whole universe and yet you remain a centre. In the individual there is a centration and there is a circumference which is so flexible that it can become as wide as the universe. This individual is a very special kind of formation of the Transcendent himself, you might say the special power of the Supreme, of the Transcendental in which the whole of the Supreme is present in a centre and because of that reason, while it is a centre it is also as Supreme as the Supreme and can become as wide as the Universal, and yet can remain the centre. It is a very special kind of a centration. Such is the true nature of the individual.

Painting is outcome of seeing, language of hearing.

THE ORIGIN OF LANGUAGE: Maya tribes of Central America developed an original, ideographic system of writing with which they recorded chronology, astronomy, history, and religion.

Ancient languages like Sanskrit developed alphabet where one letter symbolizes one phoneme or a significant sound. The major non-alphabetic forms of writing are Chinese, in which each character represents a word or concept, and Japanese, in which each character represents a syllable. It appears that writing arose independently in different parts of the world. Seven original systems of writing that can be recognized are, 1. Sumerian in Mesopotamia, 3100 B.C. to A.D. 75, 2. Proto-Elamite in Elam, 3000 B.C. to A.D. 400, 3. Egyptian in Egypt, 3000 B.C. to A.D. 400, 4. Proto-Indic in the Indus Valley around 2200 B.C., 5. Cretan in Crete and Greece, 2000 to 1200 B.C., 6. Chinese in China, 1300 B.C. to the present, and 7. Hittite in Anatolia and Syria, 1500 B.C. to 700 B.C. The original, ideographic, writing system of Maya tribes of Central America developed independently in their Pre-Classic Period( 1500 B.C. ? – A.D. 300).

If God instructs intuitively and the receiving prophet transcribes it in a language known to him, does he transcribe with a colouring of his own. What was his psychological condition when Muhammad received his instruction which he transcribed thus:

[48:28] He is the One who sent His messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth, to make it prevail over all other religions. GOD suffices as a witness.

Obviously he was not looking for transcendence. That would go against his belief that man cannot equal God.
He was trying to understand. But he was not beyond belonging and esteem.

So when intuitive knowledge came, he gave his own colouring to it.
A man entirely beyond the esteem need would give a different colour to the same intuitive knowledge.

WHAT IS LANGUAGE?

Language is a new phenomenon of Anatomically Modern Man identified by Science as Homo sapiens sapiens. The issue of Truth and Divine Revelation has to be examined in the context of Language used for describing it.

Most Muslims with whom I worked, do not read or write Arabic Language, the Language of Quran. Rather, they follow the traditions or customs associated with religion like praying five times facing in the direction of Mecca.

Angels have spoken to Prophet Abraham and Moses, and they may have spoken in Hebrew Language which majority of Christians don’t understand. Many Biblical scholars think that Jesus used a local dialect whereas Bible is mostly written in Hebrew, Greek, and some Latin.

Faisal will not communicate. That is standard operating procedure. He finds it impossible to defend the Quran. So he will not venture to explain. But the Quran can be read by anyone online. Here is what Sura 48 says:

[48:28] He is the One who sent His messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth, to make it prevail over all other religions. GOD suffices as a witness.*

[48:29] Muhammad – the messenger of GOD – and those with him are harsh and stern against the disbelievers, but kind and compassionate amongst themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating, as they seek GOD’s blessings and approval. Their marks are on their faces, because of prostrating. This is the same example as in the Torah. Their example in the Gospel is like plants that grow taller and stronger, and please the farmers. He thus enrages the disbelievers. GOD promises those among them who believe, and lead a righteous life, forgiveness and a great recompense.

Many non-Muslims, simply assume without examination that the Koran, since it is a religious book, must teach peace, love, brotherhood, and compassion.
What does the Koran think of infidels and what does it teach for Muslims to do to them? Why?
Spencer: In the Koran the Infidels (kuffar) are, simply, those who reject Islam. They are those who do not believe in Muhammad’s message: they “treat it as a falsehood that they must meet Allah” (6:31) and “believe not in the Hereafter” (16:60). They “have bartered guidance for error” (2:16). They even dare to mock Muhammad in his proclamation of Islam. Allah tells his prophet, “When ye proclaim your call to prayer they take it (but) as mockery and sport; that is because they are a people without understanding” (5:58).
The Infidels are those who have made themselves enemies “to Allah, and His angels and His messengers, and Gabriel and Michael.” Allah himself, in turn, “is an enemy to the disbelievers” (2:98). And Satan and his minions are their friends: “Lo! We have made the devils protecting friends for those who believe not” (7:27). They are also, naturally enough, the enemies of the Muslims. Allah gives permission to the believers to shorten their prayers while traveling “for fear the unbelievers may attack you: for the unbelievers are unto you open enemies” (4:101).
Who specifically are Infidels? First there are polytheists (mushrikun), whom Allah particularly disdains for committing the cardinal sin of shirk – associating partners with Allah (2:105, 3:95, and many other passages identify the polytheists as apart from and opposed to Islam’s central monotheism).
There are also People of the Book – mostly Jews and Christians. Islamic apologists argue that Islam does not consider them Infidels, since the Koran never specifically identifies them as such. The Koran, they further note, speaks of the “unbelievers among the People of the Book” (59:2), implying that at least some People of the Book were believers, and therefore were not Infidels.
But who comprised this group among the People of the Book that the Koran identifies as believers? They were Jews and Christians who distinguished themselves by “believing” in one thing: that the Biblical prophets, as well as Jesus, preached Islam and anticipated Muhammad’s arrival — and thus they became Muslims when they heard about Islam. In other words, they were proto-Muslims who recognized that the true teachings of Moses and Jesus were identical to Muhammad’s teachings. Any Jews and Christians who rejected this idea and stayed true to their own religions were “unbelievers among the People of the Book” – and therefore Infidels.
The Koran consistently assumes that the Infidels are not people who have come to a good faith decision that Islam is false – neither the Koran nor Islamic tradition allows for the existence of such people. The Koran declares that “the Religion before Allah is Islam,” and that the People of the Book reject it only because of “envy of each other” (3:19). The Jews and Christians, says Maulana Bulandshahri, a twentieth-century Islamic scholar, recognized Muhammad “to be the final Prophet but their obstinate nature prevented them from accepting.”
Muslims have the responsibility to fight the Infidels (4:89, 2:191, 9:5) and subjugate the People of the Book under the rule of Islamic law (9:29).

“The religion in the sight of God is Islam (Submission to God)” 3:19

On first impression, many who read the above statement will immediately say: Hold on! What about Judaism and Christianity? After all, these religions were also authorised by God!

So what does the believer say? All religions have been corrupted but Islam the final religion is beyond corruption:

Essentially, if there is only one religion decreed by God there must be One ‘truth’. Do we then conclude that there should be one revelation? The answer to this question is that ‘truth’ and ‘revelation’ are not absolutely equivalent terms. Because ‘truth’ is an absolute term it is situated independent of form, whereas revelations are relative to time, people and place, and thus require a form, but to speak of form is to speak of diversity and thus plurality.

The need for different revelations at different times and for different people is justified by means of the following:

1- Mankind has gone through enormous developments through the ages, physically, mentally and spiritually, and thus there was always the need for various revelations at different times for different peoples. Although various revelations are united in message and truth, we find that God never addresses identical revelations to peoples of different eras. This being so, it can be said that diverse revelations do not, and should not contradict one another, for although they differ in form, the religion decreed in all of them, which is Islam (Submission to God), is one and the same.

2- If there appears any apparent contradiction between different revelations, they are in human receptacles and not in the divine message. This is as a result of human inability to interpret such revelations and also due to the failure to preserve the ‘truth’ contained in the revelation, which always tends to be impaired and altered with the passing of time.

Ultimately, the apparent contradiction is no more than one between corrupt scripts as well as the interpretations of the original revelations, and not between the original revelations themselves.
Inevitably, and through corruption in the transfer and application of a Scripture, together with the social and cultural factors that always widen the gap between factions, we are left with a multitude of corrupt religions. These sub-religions in many ways hardly bare any resemblance to the original religion decreed by God.

For that, there becomes a necessity for mankind to receive another revelation that puts them back on track with God’s law which has been badly corrupted.

3- We find that up until the advent of the industrial revolution and the fast travel era, the world was still just a wide expanse of disjointed lands and peoples.
Many people would not have even heard of those Scriptures that had already been revealed in various other parts of the world. This is why a new Scripture would be revealed to new communities who had not received a Scripture.

However, after the revelation of the Quran, there became no need for any further revelations. Not because the message of the Quran is any different from the message of the Torah or the Gospel, but because of the following reasons:

a- A divine promise has been endorsed in the Quran that it will not be corrupted like previous Scriptures. As a result, if the message remains intact in one Scripture, there becomes no need for further revelations.
b- With the advent of the modern fast travel means of today, the whole world became a closer knit unit. People do not have to travel to hear or receive information, as it can be received through the numerous media channels that were not available a few centuries ago.

THE DIVINE MOTHER OF LIFE, ENERGY, AND KNOWLEDGE – CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

To celebrate International Women’s Day on Wednesday, March 08, 2017, I account for human existence honoring ‘The Divine Mother of Life, Energy, and Knowledge. The Divine Principle has to be both male and female and in this article, I present the feminine aspect of Divine Principle as “Whole Angel”, the harmonious blending or coming together of Angel of Beauty, Angel of Mercy, and Angel of Knowledge.

The Father and the Mother – Principles governing Life  :  

MAATRU DEVO BHAVA, PITRU DEVO BHAVA  – THE DIVINITY OF MOTHER AND FATHER :  

Father is described as the male parent, an ancestor, an originator, and as a Controller. Very often, in the Land of India, God is considered as both the Father and the Mother of all life forms. Mother is described as the female parent and something that is regarded as a ‘Source’. In Indian tradition, Father may be viewed as the ‘Prime Cause’ and Mother is the Source of ‘Prime Energy’. Mother is the source of energy in performance of all kinds of actions and in accomplishment of all kinds of work. The Mother Principle represents the Endeavor/Work/Effort that makes action possible. If Life is defined as function at the level of biological molecules, Mother represents the Source or the Origin of these organic molecules; Mother is the Source of Energy for the synthesis of these organic molecules; and Mother is the Source of Knowledge that provides the ability of recognition and the ability to use the molecules in a sequential manner to manage the biochemical reactions of these organic molecules to function as Life.

 I dedicate this blog post to memory of my mother. Biological Science provides me the understanding to recognize her as the Divine Mother of Life, Energy, and Knowledge(Angel of Beauty, Angel of Mercy, and Angel of Knowledge).   

ANGEL OF BEAUTY – MOTHER – SOURCE OF LIFE  :   

The complex, multicellular human organism begins as a single cell. That single cell is the source of life, energy, and knowledge.   

I, as a human organism exist in this world as I had arrived from a previously existing ‘Mother Cell’. By repeated cell growth and cell division or replication known as ‘Mitosis’, the human organism grows and develops into a form containing thousands of billions of cells. This process of development is called ‘Morphogenesis’ which involves not only cell growth but differentiation into specialized types of cells. All the tissues and organs of which the human body is composed have originally developed from a microscopic cell known as ‘Ovum’ or the ‘Egg Cell’. This Ovum or Egg Cell may be regarded as a perfect cell and could be described as ‘Mother Cell’. All the solid tissues in the human body can be shown to consist largely of similar cells; it is true that they may differ, but they are essentially similar to an Ovum. The Ovum is a reproductive cell that is adapted to meet the nutritional requirements of the early developmental stages of the embryo. It is always a large cell because it contains sufficient cytoplasmic substance for the development of a self-sufficient embryo. Some of the substance which is packaged in yolk particles contains cell components; typically an Ovum contains sufficient quantities of components for many cells. Thus the Ovum need not grow as it divides; as the nuclei divide, the cytoplasm subdivides until the Ovum consists of a large number of normal-sized cells. By contrast, the male reproductive cells known as ‘Spermatozoa’ contain very little cytoplasm and they cannot further divide into new cells.   

THE SOURCE OF LIFE – PROTOPLASM  :   

The most significant feature of the similarity between the cells of a man and that of the ‘Mother Cell’ from which he had arrived is  presence of a soft gelatinous, semi-fluid, granular material inside the cell. This substance known as ‘Protoplasm’ is similar to that found in the Ovum. The Ovum consists of this viscous, translucent, colloidal substance enclosed in a membrane called Plasma Membrane. A small spherical body called nucleus is embedded in the protoplasm. The protoplasm could also be differentiated into cytoplasm and nucleoplasm based upon its location. Cytoplasm refers to protoplasm located outside the nucleus. Nucleoplasm refers to protoplasm located inside the nucleus. The two essential features of any living cell in the human body are that of  presence of protoplasm and the nucleus.   

The most striking characteristics of protoplasm are its vital properties of “Motion” and “Nutrition”. Protoplasm has the intrinsic power to change its shape and position. Motion of protoplasm is called ‘amoeboid movement’ as it resembles the movements observed in the Amoeba proteus animalcule. Nutrition is the power which protoplasm has of attracting itself the materials necessary for its growth and maintenance from surrounding matter and environment. The Egg Cell or the Ovum is the Source or the Mother of Life.   

THE LAW OF INDIVIDUALITY : HEREDITY AND VARIATION  :   

Heredity is the sum of all biological processes by which particular characteristics are transmitted from parents to their offspring. A child inherits a genetic constitution from its biological parents. This hereditary endowment, the total of the genes that the child has received from both parents is called the genotype. The genotype of an individual is formed from the constituents of the genotypes of his parents. The genotype in a fertilized Egg Cell influences the developmental pattern of the child. Progeny is not exact duplicates of their parents and usually vary in many traits. Heredity and Variation are two sides of the same coin. The outward appearance of an organism is called the phenotype. The same individual shows different phenotypes in childhood, in adulthood, and in old age. The genotype, on the other hand, does not change during an individual’s life. Each cell in the human body contains the same total genetic information that was present in the fertilized Egg. However, the cells are not identical. In different types of cells, groups of genes are controlled ( in effect switched on and off ) by various biochemical processes, so that each cell manufactures the proteins and structures needed for it to function. Cells are regulated by the DNA in the nucleus and by the transfer of selected portions of the DNA information to the cytoplasm through the intermediate molecules of ‘Messenger RNA’. It is estimated that, on average, only about 10 percent of the genes of any cell are functional; selection of functional genes varies with the type of cell. This biological phenomenon of selective gene functioning may contribute to what I term as ‘The Law of Individuality’. Deoxyribonucleic acid or DNA accounts for the ability of all living matter to replicate itself exactly and to transmit genetic information from parent to offspring. The child maintains its individuality by selectively switching the inherited DNA on and off. The Law of Individuality applies to all living organisms. Despite the basic biological, chemical, and physical similarities found in all living things, diversity of life exists not only among and between species but also within every natural population.   

 The Mother Cell is the Source of Life for its child and yet the child comes into existence as a brand new and original product with its own Identity and Individuality. The Mother Cell does not manufacture the new multicellular organism called child. A child is always a created object even when it derives its life from a Mother Cell.   

ANGEL OF MERCY, GRACE, AND COMPASSION – MOTHER – SOURCE OF ENERGY  :   

To maintain life an organism not only repairs or replaces ( or both ) its structures by a constant supply of the materials of which it is composed but also keeps its life processes in operation by a steady supply of energy.   

Living systems must be supplied energy for continual synthesis of new organic molecules and to replace or to repair broken organic molecules. This functional activity; the processes of synthesis and breakdown of organic molecules by a living cell, is known as metabolism. Metabolism involves a living system’s continual exchange of some of its materials with its surroundings, principally in the process of building up or destroying its protoplasm. growth involves a higher rate of synthesis of protoplasm than a rate of breakdown of that matter.   

ACQUISITION OF ENERGY :   

Organisms acquire energy for their metabolism by two general methods and could be classified as autotrophs or self feeders and heterotrophs or feeders of other organisms. Plants are known as Photoautotrophs as they acquire useful free energy from the energy of Sunlight. In a process known as Photosynthesis, plants use Sunlight to break water into Oxygen and Hydrogen. Hydrogen is then combined with Carbon dioxide to produce such energy-rich molecules as Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and carbohydrates and the Oxygen is released back into the atmosphere. Humans and most other animals are known as heterotrophs – these organisms acquire energy by the controlled breakdown of pre-existing organic molecules ( food ) supplied by other organisms. Humans utilize the atmospheric Oxygen ( released by plant life ) to combine chemically with organic matter ( food ) they have eaten and release Carbon dioxide and water as waste products. Metabolic processes do not occur in one step. It is not similar to burning sugar in air.   

KREB’S TRICARBOXYLIC ACID CYCLE  :   

The glucose, a simple sugar is broken down by a series of successive and coordinated steps, each mediated by a particular and specific enzyme. The human organism extracts useful energy by a metabolic process described as Oxidation-Reduction Reactions. The glucose is broken down in a series of about 71 enzymatically catalyzed steps. The first 11 of these biochemical reactions do not involve the use of Oxygen. These Oxidation-Reduction Reactions occur in intracellular organelles known as Mitochondria in the cytoplasm of cells.   

MITOCHONDRIA – THE POWERHOUSE OF CELLS  :   

Mitochondria are typically sausage-shaped particles about 0.5 to one micron wide and about 5 to 10 microns long. They are surrounded by an outer unit membrane which controls the passage of material into and out of the mitochondria and govern their internal environment. The inner membrane is the site of the respiratory functions that make the mitochondria the so-called Powerhouse of the Cell. The inner membrane is folded repeatedly into shelf like folds called cristae which contain the enzymes that play an essential role in  conversion of the energy of foodstuffs into the energy used for cellular activities.   

MITOCHONDRIA AND CHLOROPLASTS – A DIVINE SOURCE FOR ENERGY ACQUISITION :   

Mitochondria and Chloroplasts found in the green plant cells perform the same fundamental processes. The Chloroplasts contain the green colored pigment known as Chlorophyll. The Chloroplasts convert the energy of Sunlight into energy-rich ATP and use ATP to convert Carbon into specific organic substances. The most important equations for living things are mutually inverse. Respiration of human organisms represents the reverse of Photosynthesis of Green Plants. Both Mitochondria and the Chloroplasts are semi-independent and self-reproducing parts of the living cells. They have a degree of autonomy and they are unlike the other components of cells. Mitochondria contain DNA in the form of a Chromosome arranged in a ring. The DNA of  Mitochondria has different distribution of bases from that of the DNA found in the Chromosomes present in the nucleus. Mitochondria carry the genes for their own replication and for the enzymes found in them. They can synthesize some of their own proteins and reproduce by themselves. In one respect the mitochondria function as the parts of the cells and in another respect, they behave like independent organisms that reproduce on their own.   

The Mother Cell is the source of Mitochondria found in all the cells of my human body. During the Growth and Development of Human Embryo and Fetus, all the newly formed cells contain Mitochondria derived from the Egg Cell. Hence, mother as a biological parent represents the Source of Energy for all the Living Functions and activities of her children. I cannot move a muscle in my body without drawing energy supplied by the maternal Mitochondria which continue to live and replicate establishing my mother as the Source of Energy for my existence during my entire Life’s Journey.   

ANGEL OF KNOWLEDGE – MOTHER – SOURCE OF KNOWLEDGE  :   

Life is the state of an individual characterized by the capacity to perform certain functional activities including the ability of responsiveness. Life is further characterized by  presence of complex transformation of organic molecules and by organization of such molecules into the successively larger units of protoplasm, cells, organs, and tissues. Hence, I have defined Life as “Knowledge in Action.”   

Responsiveness represents the ability of an organism to change in response to alteration in its environment. Responsiveness, alertness, awareness, and consciousness separates living from nonliving matter and defines life’s underlying principle. Living cells are aware or conscious of the environment in which they exist as well as the state of their own internal environment. The one very important part of environment of a cell is other cells. The ability called awareness and responsiveness is important for recognition, association, and cooperation between cells. Cells function together by exchanging chemical signals.   

THE BIOLOGICAL MEMBRANE – AN ORGAN OF SENSE PERCEPTION :   

Cell is the most elementary unit of Life. Cell is bounded by a Plasma Membrane which is more correctly described as a Biological Membrane. It separates the cell from the environment and from other cells. It helps to maintain a constant milieu in which intracellular reactions occur. The Biological Membrane allows a highly controlled exchange of matter across the barrier it poses, some compounds are able to pass through the membrane easily, others are blocked. Cells contain various internal structures such as the nucleus, and mitochondria, each of which is enclosed by a Membrane. Both the Biological Membrane and some of the intracellular membranes are parts of a continuous Membrane System that extends through much of the body of the cell. It serves two purposes. A compartmentalization of  cell is required for many cellular activities, including uptake and conversion of nutrients, synthesis of new molecules, production of energy, transportation, and release of cell products, and regulation and coordination of metabolic sequences. The cellular organelles are protected from one another’s enzymatic activities, and those of the cytoplasm. The Biological Membrane System functions like an Organ of Sense Perception and maintains the responsiveness of the cell.   

THE CYTOPLASMIC OR MATERNAL INHERITANCE  :   

Deoxyribonucleic acid or DNA accounts for the ability of all living matter to replicate itself exactly and to transmit genetic information from parent to offspring. While offspring inherit a genetic constitution and hereditary traits from both parents, some characteristics are inherited through the maternal line only. For example, there are no Chlorophyll containing Chloroplasts in pollen grains of  ( male ) flowers. The act of Pollination does not contribute this most important characteristic known as Chloroplasts. Chloroplasts are found only in the Egg Cells of  ( female ) flowers. Similarly, humans inherit the Powerhouses called Mitochondria only from Maternal cytoplasm. A Cytoplasmic Inheritance is entirely Maternal. Human functions that involve Sensory Perception, Mental Cognition, Learning, and the functions of Memory and Consciousness should be viewed as functions of the cytoplasm. Cytoplasm represents the Seat of Knowledge. Man begins Life as a single cell with its cytoplasm. The cell grows and divides while building more of its cytoplasm. Knowledge is    Fact of Knowing,  State of Knowing, and  Act of Knowing a range of information, the Mother or the Source of Knowledge is the Maternal Cytoplasm inherited from the Egg Cell, Ovum, or the Mother Cell.

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – WHAT IS GOD’S LANGUAGE?

Holy Book of Quran, Surah Al-Hadeed, verse #3 reads: “huwal-Awwalu wal-Akhiru wath Tahiru wal Batinu.” It means:
HE IS THE FIRST; HE IS THE LAST; HE IS THE MANIFEST; HE IS THE HIDDEN.

It is ridiculous and preposterous to know God using Human Language. God is the First and God preceded arrival of man on Earth. Just like the Dinosaurs, man may have to depart from planet Earth and it does not mean God will be replaced.

Man has to examine God and Nature not in the context of Human Existence but in the context of Life prior to arrival of man on Earth. What is the Language in which God instructs Nature to make Creation a reality that man can perceive?

We started this inquiry discussing the specific idea of true and false religion. False religion was stated to be that whose message is “that Allah may be worshipped in the form of His creation. But one who understands the message of Islam, which is the true religion would never concede to idolatry or the worship of another person. Allah is in all of us according to this false belief. But in the true religion, Allah and man are forever separate.” In the true religion, we concluded in the course of our discussion, there are two realities. They are Allah and his creation. The true religion does not talk of illusion of creation.

In the course of the inquiry we came up with a new fact. There were indeed at least two persons in history, Mansoor and Ramakrishna, who experienced unity rather than separation with Allah. With this discovery our starting statement stands falsified. So in accordance with the dialectic method we are forced to modify the starting statement if the inquiry is to move any further. There can no longer be the certainty that divinity does not descend into man or that Allah and man are forever separate. The assertion “Neither is Allah His creation or a part of it, nor is His creation Him or a part of Him” can no longer hold.

We agreed that our method of inquiry will not be the subjective method of mysticism, but the objective method of philosophy which is rational and scientific in nature. It is an intellectual method. In this method when we come up with a new fact we enlarge our inquiry to include that fact. Can we now conclude that a religion that worships creation is not necessarily false as premised in the starting statement, or do you have any objection to this reasoning. If you have an objection let us look at it and consider how it further changes our conclusion.

Next, it was premised that all religions other than Islam are false. The basis of this statement is that the name of God’s religion lslam was chosen by Allah Himself and clearly mentioned in His final revelation to man. In the final book of divine revelation, the Qur’aan, Allah states the following:

“This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion”. ( Surah Al-Maa’idah 5:3)

“If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah (God) never will It be accepted of Him” ( Surah Aal’imraan 3:85)

“Abraham was not a Jew nor Christian; but an upright Muslim.” ( Surah Aal’imraan 3:67)

The question to now consider here is, whose revelation is this. Is it Allah’s revelation to the prophet, or the prophet’s revelation to man?

That there was a revelation is not in doubt. What was the nature of the revelation? Was it in vision or speech? What was the consciousness of the receiver of the revelation. These are the questions that have been raised that need discussion. Obviously the prophet is not the knower of all things. “Fundamentally, man cannot know the Final Truth, the Ultimate Reality. Man exists under the protective shield of Illusion which blocks both mental and sensory perceptions.”

Man shares his Perspective of Truth while deriving Protection under shield of Grand Illusion. Man’s Power of Imagination cannot free man from problems of Perception imposed by Natural, Fundamental Forces like Light and Gravitation.

In my analysis, man’s experience of Immortal or Eternal Soul, Spirit, or God is unlikely for man never existed on Earth apart from the most recent Geological Time Period. The concept of Only One God cannot be verified by human mental or sensory experience.

Man’s existence is conditioned; the conditioning influence is called ‘Grand Illusion’. Man exists under the protective shield of Illusion which blocks both mental and sensory perceptions. Man shares his Perspective of Truth while deriving Protection under shield of Grand Illusion. Man’s Power of Imagination cannot free man from problems of Perception imposed by Natural, Fundamental Forces such as Light or Gravitation. Again, the Qur’an argues that the knowledge of God as the creator of everything rules out the possibility of lesser gods since these beings must be themselves created. For the Qur’an, God is an immanent and transcendent deity who actively creates, maintains and destroys the universe. The reality of God as the ultimate cause of things is the belief that God is veiled from human understanding because of the secondary causes and contingent realities of things in the world.[This is the argument also of some Sikh scholars regarding the concept of God in Sikhism]. The belief in the oneness of God is equated in the Qur’an with the “belief in the unseen” (Surah 2:3).

According to Hossein Nasser, Ali, the first Imam of Shia and fourth Rashid Caliph states that “God is One” means that God is away from likeness and numeration and he is not divisible even in imagination.

Tanzih is an islamic religious concept meaning transcendence. In Islamic theology, two opposite terms are attributed to Allah: tanzih and tashbih. The latter means “nearness, closeness, accessibility”.
However, the fuller meaning of tanzih is ‘declaring incompatibility’, i.e. affirming Allah’s transcendent distance from humanity. This concept is eternally juxtaposed with Allah’s tashbih (closeness, or ‘affirming similarity’). The Quran asserts the existence of a single and absolute truth that transcends the world; a unique, independent and indivisible being, who is independent of the entire creation.
Tawhid is the religion’s most fundamental concept and holds that God(Allah, literally Al-Ilāh “the God”) is One (Al-ʾAḥad) and Single (Al-Wāḥid).

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – REGULATIVE AND CONSTITUTIVE PRINCIPLES OF PURE REASON:

Regulative Concepts & Principles, Constitutive Concepts & Principles are central to Kant’s philosophy. In the Critique of Pure Reason, this distinction marks the division between the Faculty of Reason and the Faculty of Understanding.

The Understanding is constitutive of the possibility of Experience. All Experience must conform to the Concepts & Principles of the Understanding, which are realized or instantiated in Experience; Experience contains Substances, Causal Connections and so on.

The Faculty of Reason, by contrast, is merely Regulative in relation to Experience. Although Reason too plays an indispensable role in Experience, the Concepts proper to it – the so-called ideas of Reason, such as the idea of God, or the idea of the World as a complete Totality cannot be realized or instantiated in Experience at all. Nevertheless, ideas of Reason still function legitimately to guide empirical inquiry into the objects that can be given in Experience.

We declare, for example, that the Things in the World must be so considered as if they had their existence from a Highest Intelligence. It indicates not how an Object is Constituted but rather, how we, under its guidance, are to seek the Constitution and Connection of the Objects of Experience in general. Thus, Regulative Concept & Principle helps in complete Understanding of the Constitution and Connection of the Objects of Experience.

In its regulative use, Reason guides our work in striving for Knowledge, helping us to correct errors and arrive at more comprehensive insights.

Regulative Principles govern the Existence of Appearance. Such Principles may not be proven since Existence cannot be constituted. For example, man has no ability to constitute Living Matter called Protoplasm while man has general understanding of its constituents. Man may not be able to prove and verify all the Regulative Principles of Human Existence for he cannot constitute Living Matter.

Kant discusses the Regulative Principles of Reason, which determine the limits of Reason.

The Principles that objectively state what is present in the Object itself, that is, what is the Constitution of Appearance. These Principles of Pure Understanding describe standard and necessary Constituents of the World of Appearance. Regulative Principles play no part in determining the Objective Character of the World of Appearance. They are maxims, neither provable nor disprovable and are not to be understood as true or false. They serve to guide our inquiry within Experience and lead us to transgress the limits of Reason from the Conditioned to the Unconditioned. For example, I mentioned several times in the past as to how Human Existence is possible only under the influence of Illusion and not that of Reality of Earth’s Speed.

WHAT IS “PANCHA PRANA?”

In Indian Tradition, Pancha Prana (Breath of Life or VAYU) is described as Vyana, Samana, Udana, Apana and Prana. The term or phrase ‘PRANA’ refers to air that is in the heart, and the word is generally used to describe the act of breathing or respiration, as a sign or mark of Life. In reality, this air or breath, or VAYU exists in molecules of Hemoglobin contained in Red Blood Cells.

No religious doctrine mentions about Cellular Respiration. But, understanding of Existence and Life will be impossible without examining the Connection between Air, Breath, Vayu, Respiration and Food that sustains Life by providing Matter and Energy drawn from an external source. In Medical Science, understanding of man involves study of Human Anatomy (Structure and Constitution of Cells, Tissues, Organs, and Organ Systems of Human Body), and Human Physiology (Regulation of Functions of various Cells, Tissues, Organs, and Organ Systems of Human Body).

I will qualify my opinion that Spirit is non-material.

Sri Aurobindo uses words like Spirit and Truth in their original significance and assumes the reader knows them, whereas the reader takes them in the linguistic sense.
— For us, Spirit is soul or God, a power that presides over human destiny, as we take government to be a power in the capital.
Spirit, to Sri Aurobindo is the experience of Sat while it tries to objectify. This experience renders Sat into substance. It is out of that substance the world is made. It is difficult for us to distinguish between Spirit, Soul and Being. He explains that Spirit in the transcendent plane is before Time was created and Soul is the Spirit in the Cosmos and Universe.

Spirit is the experience of Sat while it tries to objectify.

There was a time when God was alone, all by Himself.
That is the state of Absolute.
The Absolute is non-material.
The Absolute is referred to as Akalpurkh by Sikhs.

Then God decided to objectify Himself.
He became Spirit; the Universal Godhead.
The Spirit is a substance.
The Spirit is referred to as Karta Purakh by Sikhs.

Spirit comes in the manifestation in two forms.
As a diffuse principle called the Holy Ghost by Christians, and Naam by Sikhs.
As an individuated form called the Son by Christians and Jeev by Sikhs.
Jesus identified with Spirit as Father and Guru Nanak as Karta Purakh.

Soul (delegate of Jeevatma) may or may not be material.
I do not understand this as yet, though I tend to the view it is non-material.

It has qualities of Body, Vital, Mind, and is yet something more.
‘Qualities’ is not the same as ‘composed of’.

Body, mind and life are distinctly material.

For Body, Mind, and life are based on the Gunas.
The Spirit is superior to, or is above the Gunas.
How is spirit a substance and non-material at the same time is yet to be understood.

There was only SAT; pure existence; Akalpurkh.

It became SAT, CHIT, ANAND.
That was the birth of Spirit.
Sat, Chit, Anand is transcendent; i.e. non-material.

The Spirit is transcendent in Christianity.
The Holy Ghost; is it immanent?
Naam is transcendent and immanent.
How does Spirit straddle transcendence and immanence as Father and Holy Ghost?

The soul is present in everything ─ in the body, in our movements, in our thoughts, in our feelings, emotions, impulses, predilections, preferences, attractions, in everything it is present; because actually it is the stuff of which all this is made, so it is bound to be present everywhere.

There is a further capacity of the soul. The capacity to deal with the confusions, doubts and errors of the mind, the capacity to control undesirable desires, to eliminate wrong relationships which one builds up in life, the capacity to overcome the obscurity of the physical, the resistance of the physical and the illnesses of the physical. These three capacities are also present in the soul. It not only has the knowledge of dealing with them but also the skill of dealing with them. You might say that the soul is both like an architect and a mason. An architect is one who designs out of materials a beautiful structure. Similarly, the soul has body, life and mind as materials and the soul knows how to design and harmonise body, life and mind in a beautiful manner and like a mason he can also ultimately construct that beautiful building.
The soul has a further capacity. It can communicate deeply with the souls of others inwardly, without even speaking, even without outer communication. It may use outer communication if necessary but it is not indispensable for it. The telephonic lines of the soul with other souls are very direct.
And finally the greatest capacity of the soul is that it is inherently aware of God. God is, for most people, particularly in modern times, an idea or a belief which is imposed from the outside and most of us doubt whether God really exists or not. But for the soul, God is a living reality. For the soul, the one object that is really real is God. It is in direct touch with God and it can communicate with God, it has the sweetest relationship with God and it can discover what is God’s will and can manifest it.
In the Veda, the greatest discovery that our Vedic Rishis made was the discovery of the soul. The word they used for the soul was Agni and to explain to ordinary people, they said that you must light Agni every day in your house. This is the prescription they gave and they made Agni the centre of the entire Indian life. They said that for every turn of life you have to do a havan, you have to light the fire. They said that if you go inwards, you will discover the soul, which is like a flame, an inner flame, a flame of aspiration, a flame, which always moves upwards. Like fire, it always moves upwards and it is always pure. In fact, impurities can be burnt by fire but fire is always pure. Whatever you might do, fire can never be impure; similarly the soul is always pure. Therefore every human being is basically pure in the soul and if you can really reach the soul of somebody, you can forget all the impurities of outer nature. All the things that we call ugly, wrong and bad are forgotten when we come to the soul plane. It does not mean that every human being in his outer being is pure. But if you really want to establish a true relationship with somebody, you can find in his soul, a real purity in which everything can be burnt away. So, if you really meet somebody at the soul level, the entire past can be thrown out, wiped out. Everything can be forgotten, forgiven, it truly vanishes. The soul is like a slate in which purity remains, whatever else you have written can be rubbed off. That is why the Vedic Rishis compared the soul with only one thing and that is Agni, and that is why they made Agni the centre of human life, of the entire social life and they said that at every turn of life, human beings have to discover Agni. The very first mantra of the Rig Veda gives the whole secret of the soul. It says agnimire, “O soul, I worship you”. This is the secret mantra. If you want to find your soul, you just say, “O soul I worship you.” If you constantly do it, the soul itself will come out in the front and you will begin to shine with the nature of the soul. Then it says, purohitam, “you are the purohita ─ leader.” Purohita does not mean an ordinary priest. Puroha means front, hita means put forward; that which is put forward is called purohita. So the soul is the purohita, one who is always in the front, he is constantly guiding you, although you may not listen to its guidance, you might not be aware of it. It says purohitam yajnasya devam ritvijam. He is the ritvija ─ the one who knows the cycles of development, where one is at present in the long cycle of development. You may have had many past births. It knows all the past births, it knows where you are now, it knows the direction in which you are going, it knows the cycles by which you can move towards it. It is ritvijam ─ ritu means the season. It is the knower of the seasons of the soul’s development. It is hotaram; it is the one who can call all the powers that are in God because it has direct contact with Him. It is ratnadhatamam. Here ratna means happiness, bliss, sweetness ─ it is the holder of all the bliss that is possible, even the highest bliss. So, if a human being is in search for the highest bliss he will get it only by going through the soul. Such is the importance of the soul in our search of life.

But when the same sweetness, or even greater sweetness is experienced without dependence upon any object that is the sign of the soul.

In Katha Upanishad it is described as madhvadaha ─ madhu means honey, adaha means eater ─ the soul is described as the eater of honey, the eternal honey; it is like a sponge which constantly oozes out honey. Each one of us has got a soul, just as each one of us has got a mind. It is full of sweetness, inherent sweetness, you do not have to manufacture it and you do not have to be in contact with any object in the world to experience it. When you touch it you will automatically find sweetness in it and you will be filled with sweetness. That is the first characteristic of the soul ─ inherent sweetness of consciousness ─ not merely sweetness coming from outside, but that which is inherent, inborn ─ just as the capacity of thinking is inborn in the mind, similarly the capacity of experiencing sweetness independent of any object in the world, internally, is a speciality of the soul. The second characteristic of the soul is that it has an automatic knowledge of the truth. If the soul is brought into the real play, put in the presence of many facts, many people, it will automatically turn to the truthful man, truthful woman, truthful child, automatically, just as the sunflower turns automatically to the sun. The soul is like a needle that automatically turns to all that is truthful. In the mind, truth is to be sought for. In the mind it may be mixed with error. We start with ignorance and doubt and gradually eliminate errors and arrive at some kind of truth. It is a big labour and in that too we are not sure whether it is really true or not. We simply say: “I think it may be true, probably it is true,” and to make it certain you require so much evidence. Only then can you say, “Now I think it is really true” and even then fresh evidence might emerge and disqualify what was previously believed to be the truth. We see in the judgments of the courts, how very often, even with clinching evidence, a wrong judgment is given. So, mind is a seeker of truth, it may arrive at the truth but it is never certain about it. The soul on the contrary is automatically sure of what is true, without evidence. Therefore if the soul consciousness is really discovered, it can automatically find out what is true and what is false. It is compared with a swan, which has the capacity of separating milk from water. It is so said that if you fabricate a story and give it to the soul, it will automatically separate the truth from the falsehood – it will not look for evidence. Similarly, it has another capacity of distinguishing between good and evil, who is noble and who is not noble, whether somebody is truly self–sacrificing or not or only making a pretence of sacrifice. Similarly, the soul has a real eye for beauty; even in the ugly it can find out what is beautiful. That is why, when a mother has real love for her child, she always finds the child to be beautiful ─ because real motherhood is very near to the soul. All mothers in the world while experiencing real motherhood are very near to their soul. Fathers cannot experience this but mothers experience this very deeply, that is why motherhood is such an important thing in life. So, sweetness is the first recognition of the soul, and then comes the capacity to distinguish truth from falsehood, capacity to distinguish good from evil and the capacity to distinguish between the beautiful and the ugly.

There is a third element in the soul; it has an inherent knowledge of what is the purpose of the life in which it is involved now. “What is the direction that my life must take? What is the purpose of my life? What am I here to do? Should I be an engineer or a doctor or a lawyer, a coolie or a scribe, or what? How do I know what I am to do?” These are questions that everyone asks. If you give a chance to the soul it has an answer. In fact this is the one question, the answer to which you can find in no book but which you can find only in the soul, “What am I to do in life?” Books can give a general guidance, but what your specific work is, can be found only in your soul and nowhere else. That is why if you really want to know your aim in life, it can be achieved only by going to the soul. So, this is the fourth important element in the soul ─ the knowledge of the aim of life of the individual.

Rudra is engaging here in pushing an opinion. He is not interested in finding truth. Opinion is not truth. One who is inquiring into the truth of a matter takes into account all opinions in order to establish his opinion or find error in his opinion. Rudra has foreclosed the issue by refusing to consider the possibility of an immaterial Soul that may have its own independent existence. Rudra exhibits herein a non-scientific attitude, for science takes into account all observable facts. His plea is that the immaterial cannot be observed. But when effects can be observed it is a valid observation. Or if someone at least has observed, it is a valid observation. I have not observed the atoms, but I take the scientists word for it that they exist.

Matter is immortal, unborn, uncreated, immutable and indestructible says Rudra. He does nothing to disprove the claim of the scriptures that say God created matter. He may find some support in the Koranic claim that God created Man from clay or earth that was existing, but the Koran does not explain how God has sovereignty over matter that He did not create. Rudra also claims God does not exist, although he not countered the Koranic claim of transcendence and immanence of God. He offers the immanence claim as support of his own opinion, whereby he implicitly accepts transcendence, but fails to counter Islamic theology on the rejection of immanence by citing some other claims in the Koran.

My definition of Soul is; it is individuated Spirit. Spirit I define as first cause.

Rust or iron oxide is a mutation of iron. What according to you is original or true nature of iron?

Jinn according to Quran and Sunnah

Islamic belief divides sentient beings into three categories. In order of creation, they are: the angels (malayka), the hidden ones (jinn), and humankind (nas or banu adam). Angels are made out of light, jinn out of fire, men out of earth (sometimes translated as mud or clay). Angels are considered neither male nor female and have no free will. Jinn, like humans, are gendered, and have free will. (This is why, in Islamic thought, Satan is a jinn, not an angel; it would be impossible for an angel to disobey the will of God.) Jinn may be benevolent, evil, or neutral, but are generally regarded as less trustworthy and more prone to trickery than people, even if they are benign.
The Five Types of Jinn | Alif the Unseen

One of the powers of the Jinn, is that they are able to take on any physical form they like. Thus, they can appear as humans, animals trees and anything else. The Jinn are beings created with free will, living on earth in a world parallel to mankind. The Arabic word Jinn is from the verb ‘Janna’ which means to hide or conceal. Thus, they are physically invisible from man as their description suggests. The origins of the Jinn can be traced from the Quran and the Sunnah. God says:

“Indeed We created man from dried clay of black smooth mud. And We created the Jinn before that from the smokeless flame of fire” (Quran 15:26-27)

Thus the Jinn were created before man. Like humans, they too are required to worship God and follow Islam. Their purpose in life is exactly the same as ours, as God says:

“I did not create the Jinn and mankind except to worship Me.” (Quran 51:56)

Jinns can thus be Muslims or non-Muslims. However, due to their fiery nature the majority of them are non-Muslims. All these non-Muslim Jinns form a part of the army of the most famous Jinn, Satan. Consequently, these disbelieving Jinns are also called devils. Jinns also become Muslims, as they did in the time of the Prophet when a group of them were amazed by the recitation of the Quran.

Jinns do not incarnate. They assume human forms.
If by spirit you mean soul, then the soul of a 4 legged animal is an irrational soul that dies with the death of the body.
Only a rational soul (of man) is permanent. Only that can reincarnate.
But Islam holds man takes a onetime birth. There is no reincarnation.

[23:99] When death comes to one of them, he says, “My Lord, send me back.
[23:100] “I will then work righteousness in everything I left.” Not true. This is a false claim that he makes. A barrier will separate his soul from this world until resurrection.

The above words of God are clear and unambiguous. When a person dies, God takes his/her soul while he is still in the process of imploring God for another chance. As soon as the human dies a barrier is immediately in place. This barrier prevents his/her soul from returning to earth. This barrier is maintained until the Day of Resurrection.
Second : Number of Death’s (two Death’s or one Death?)
The mentioning of two deaths and two lives in 40:11 may cause some interpreters to somehow connect the Quranic teachings to the concept of multiple births, however on closer examination we realise that the opposite is true.
“They will say, “Our Lord, you have put us to death twice, and You gave us two lives; now we have confessed our sins. Is there any way out?” 40:11
The truth of the matter is that this very verse serves as another solid proof against any such theory. 40:11 traces the progress of our course from the feud in the Heavenly Society (38:69) to the Day of Judgement. We made a covenant with God (5:7) and then we were put to death. That was our First death.

Consequently, the first death ended our life in the previous life which was in God’s Kingdom and not here on Earth. The second death ends the life of the disbelievers here on Earth, hence they say to God:
“You have put us to death twice, and You gave us two lives”
The believers on the other hand do not taste the second death, after the end of their life on Earth the angels invite them to enter Heaven, they do not die but move straight to Heaven.

Upon our first death, we were brought to this life to be given a further chance to redeem our souls and submit to God’s absolute authority. This is our first and only life on Earth. The “one death” for the believers and the “two deaths” for the disbelievers set the rule that all humans have only one life on Earth and that no one returns to Earth after their death. This is clearly different from reincarnation which implies multiple lives and deaths for each individual.

Also how do you explain moving straight to heaven, when in fact you are called to heaven only on the day of judgement.

1- It is understood that the creation of souls was before the creation of bodies. We are on a journey starting from the world of souls and continuing through our mothers’ wombs, then childhood, youth, agedness, graveyard, purgatory (waiting place between Hell and Heaven), and finally ending in Hell or Heaven. The beginning of the journey is the world of souls. In this sense, the creation of souls was before the creation of bodies.

We realize that there will be no way for the created being in this life to gain full mastery of knowledge or ultimate understanding of the matters that reside exclusively with its Creator.
So, basically, one can comfortably say that Allah (SWT) does not burden us with anything more than what we truly need to know.

While all of them agree that the non-rational soul is destroyed after the destruc­tion of the body, they differ with regard to the end of the rational soul.

Al-Kindi and Ibn Sina, for example, strongly adhere to the view that all rational souls are indestructible because by nature they are simple. AL-FARABI reminds us that the reason for eternal existence is the rational soul’s knowledge of the eternal aspects of the universe. From this he draws the conclusion, as did ALEXANDER OF APHRODISIAS before him, that only those rational souls that have this knowledge at their separation from the body are indestructible. There is hope that we can recover and renew and restart if a process is broken or worn out. Nature’s ability to support and sustain Life is maintained by operation of The Laws of Conservation and by operation of the Fundamental Force called Gravitation. The other name for Spring Season, known as Vasant or Basant  is MADHAVAM. Indian tradition describes ideas by attaching them to personalities. The person known as LORD MADHAVA is the consort of a person known as Goddess MADHAVI. She derives her name from the word MADHU which describes the nectar gathered by butterflies. Madhu is used to name the taste experience called Sweetness, the sweet substances like honey, sugar, Jaggery  and any alcohol derived by fermentation of sugars. The Sweetness gives Joy and Happiness and man can get easily addicted to its powerful intoxicating effect. The sweetness has to be experienced with a sense of restraint. Man experiences a sweet sensation called MADHURYA when he experiences MADHAVI as a FORCE/POWER/ENERGY called Mercy/Grace/Compassion. Spring Season is celebrated as MADHAVAM as Lord Madhava is the Controller of the FORCE/POWER/ENERGY of Mercy/Grace/Compassion described in Sanskrit language as KRUPA. SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – THE CONCEPT OF DETACHED DEVOTION:

I carefully examined Indian Schools of Thought and in general they recommend preparing seeker’s mind as the first step to commence study of Self or Adhyatma Vidya. The preparation recommended is that of severing attachments. In my analysis, breaking of attachments involves removal of all desires which includes the desire for Moksha, Mukti, Vimochan, Liberation, Salvation, Eternal Life, Everlasting Life, or Afterlife. The desire for Transcendence or reward of Life in Heaven/Paradise, the desire to avoid punishment of Life in Hell have to be discarded. To some extent, the concept of Nirvana demands not to desire even Higher or Perfect Knowledge.

It is apparent to most investigators to find God is in Creation and yet God is Detached. If God is Detached, it is impossible for me to get or seek attachment to God. While God is detached, there is still Yoking, Joining, Coming Together, or Partnership, Association, and Bonding between Creation and Creator. I show Devotion for I lead conditioned or dependent Earthly Existence. I am not seeking my emancipation from my Dependence for it is operated by the Principle of Unity called “ASMI” in Sanskrit Language. For I recognize my Unity, I have no other Desires and I have no Desire for some kind of mental attachment to God. The Concept of Personal God of Ramanuja, or of Surrender to God, or Saranagati of Madhva do not call for Attachment to God. In my view, devotional service to God is absence of all Attachments.

I accept the above concept of “ISLAM” for it does not demand Attachment to God to receive Higher Reward of Life in Paradise and does not impose threat or Fear of Life in Hell.

REGULATIVE AND CONSTITUTIVE PRINCIPLES OF PURE REASON:

Regulative Concepts & Principles, Constitutive Concepts & Principles are central to Kant’s philosophy. In the Critique of Pure Reason, this distinction marks the division between the Faculty of Reason and the Faculty of Understanding.

The Understanding is constitutive of the possibility of Experience. All Experience must conform to the Concepts & Principles of the Understanding, which are realized or instantiated in Experience; Experience contains Substances, Causal Connections and so on.

The Faculty of Reason, by contrast, is merely Regulative in relation to Experience. Although Reason too plays an indispensable role in Experience, the Concepts proper to it – the so-called ideas of Reason, such as the idea of God, or the idea of the World as a complete Totality cannot be realized or instantiated in Experience at all. Nevertheless, ideas of Reason still function legitimately to guide empirical inquiry into the objects that can be given in Experience.

We declare, for example, that the Things in the World must be so considered as if they had their existence from a Highest Intelligence. It indicates not how an Object is Constituted but rather, how we, under its guidance, are to seek the Constitution and Connection of the Objects of Experience in general. Thus, Regulative Concept & Principle helps in complete Understanding of the Constitution and Connection of the Objects of Experience.

In its regulative use, Reason guides our work in striving for Knowledge, helping us to correct errors and arrive at more comprehensive insights.

Regulative Principles govern the Existence of Appearance. Such Principles may not be proven since Existence cannot be constituted. For example, man has no ability to constitute Living Matter called Protoplasm while man has general understanding of its constituents. Man may not be able to prove and verify all the Regulative Principles of Human Existence for he cannot constitute Living Matter.

Kant discusses the Regulative Principles of Reason, which determine the limits of Reason.

The Principles that objectively state what is present in the Object itself, that is, what is the Constitution of Appearance. These Principles of Pure Understanding describe standard and necessary Constituents of the World of Appearance. Regulative Principles play no part in determining the Objective Character of the World of Appearance. They are maxims, neither provable nor disprovable and are not to be understood as true or false. They serve to guide our inquiry within Experience and lead us to transgress the limits of Reason from the Conditioned to the Unconditioned. For example, I mentioned several times in the past as to how Human Existence is possible only under the influence of Illusion and not that of Reality of Earth’s Speed.

WHAT IS “PANCHA PRANA?”

In Indian Tradition, Pancha Prana (Breath of Life or VAYU) is described as Vyana, Samana, Udana, Apana and Prana. The term or phrase ‘PRANA’ refers to air that is in the heart, and the word is generally used to describe the act of breathing or respiration, as a sign or mark of Life. I am not seeking to discover Soul or Spirit that may exist independent of Man’s Physical or Created Being. The Structure and Behavior of Living Things contribute to their Individual Being and Function. Living Things have Complex Structures and Functional Organization. Living Functions cannot be discovered if there is breakdown or damage of these Complex Molecules. We cannot discover the taste of Water if Water Molecule is separated into its Chemical Elements. We cannot discover the taste of Salt if Salt Molecule is separated into its Chemical Elements. Living Functions called Metabolism involves making, breaking, and repairing of Molecules of Life.

5. Soul or Spirit is of interest because of its association with a Living Person. For that reason, Man must understand as to what it is to be a Substance and what it is to Exist.
6. Spirituality Science as a Science involves pursuit of theoretical knowledge of Living Soul or Spirit to find its practical application to promote Man’s Well-Being.
7. Soul or Spirit is involved in bringing together the constantly changing Identity and unchanging Individuality of Individual who exists in Natural World of Change and Experience.
8. To investigate Soul or Spirit as the guiding or regulatory mechanism to perform Living Functions needs recognition of purposeful, sequential, guided, goal-oriented, predictable, (and not random) nature of Life’s Living Functions.
9. Soul or Spirit can be stated as the Operating Principle of Living System, an Open System that is thermodynamically unstable demanding constant input of energy from its external source.
10. The Living System knows the fact of its own existence; it knows as to where it exists, and knows as to how it exists. This Awareness or Knowing is operated by Spiritual Mechanism that formulates relationship between the energy-dependent Living System and its energy-yielding Provider.
11. The term ‘Spiritual’ is to be used in the context of describing the nature of relationship, partnership, connection, bonding, or association between Living Systems and within the complex Living System.
12. Living System is complex with various independent, autonomous, interacting Units or Parts. Soul or Spirit has to be examined as the mechanism establishing Structural Unity to provide Functional Harmony.
13. Soul or Spirit is to be evaluated for its role in formulating an internal, mutually beneficial partnership between trillions of Independent, Individual, Autonomous Living Cells constituting Tissues, Organs, and Organ Systems of Human Body to provide basis for existence of Human Individual.

14. For investigation of Soul or Spirit to establish its role as Life Principle, the study involves interpretation of Biotic Interactions, both Interspecific and Intraspecific kinds of Interactions.

15. Spiritual Interactions have characteristics such as compassion, sympathy, altruism, cooperation, mutual assistance, mutual tolerance, voluntary subservience, and functional subordination to provide some benefit to members participating in Biotic Interactions. For example, study of the role of Red Blood Cells will help us to know as to how Circulation and Respiration work together to provide benefit to the entire Human Body.
16. Man, the Spiritual Being is known from the nature of his existence characterized by Living Experience of Peace, Harmony, and Tranquility within himself and within his Community and Environment that shapes his existence.
17. Man is Spiritual Being for Man has Corporeal Substance that is of Spiritual Nature. While there are diverse Living Forms, all of them share this Living Attribute called Living Matter or Protoplasm.

I inquire about existence of Soul or Spirit in a Material Substance that is basic to all Life activities, that is responsible for all Living Processes and is common to all Living Forms. The term Soul or Spirit have Material Basis for the reality of Man is established in Material World.

This is proven by experimental verification.

Indian Tradition always claimed that Soul, Spirit, the Life Principle is never affected, is never influenced by Nature, Physical Environment, or PRAKRITI. It is unchanging while Living Things exhibit varied responses to external, environmental stimuli. Indian Tradition claims that Man performing actions under Three Different Modes of Nature is distinct from True or Real Man who is endowed with Spiritual Nature. For that reason, even evil, wicked, cruel, and ignorant persons are still deemed to be of Divine Nature as Actions and Behavior cannot affect Spiritual Nature that transforms “I” into “I Am.”

stepping-stone’ has after all turned out to be a ‘tripping-stone’, on which the
humanity is stumbling and tottering for eternity! Religious mythologies and
recorded history from all regions of the human-world, hold testimony to this
“Self” created appalling plight.

In fact, the principal struggle for humankind is centred and oriented
to preserve their notion of “Self” identity. The crisis in the human
consciousness is the crisis of identity. Self-assertion, Self-esteem, Self Pride,
Self-honour are the many faces of our egocentric “Self”-identity. For
a matured discerning perception, it is quite evident that the many dire
dangers which are challenging the human physical preservation are
unwittingly created by this very “Self” preservation! This incredible
deception, human consciousness is not at all aware of. Though each human
being may be oblivious of this fact, the human history beginning from the
very hoary anthropological evidences are fully validating this “Self”
generated horror. “Self” has unleashed time-and-again mass murders and
material destructions, which perhaps even nature’s fury can not match!

For all creatures, ending the struggle for physical preservation would
mean death. Hence, all creatures including humankind have to continue the
efforts to stay alive, until our appointed moments of death. Where as for
humankind, its struggle for “Self” (ego) preservation is not only
unnecessary but it is even quite harmful. Humankind’s struggles for “Self”
preservation must come to an end.

This quixotic struggle is, by the deception called “Self”, produced of
the“ Self” and repeated endlessly for the “Self”. This enigmatic struggle
has ‘Mothered’ layers of endless unnatural complex fears(phobia) and
desires(mania). The principal one of this edifice is, fear of “Self annihilation
and desire for “Self” continuity. Unnatural fears and desires accumulated for
aeons in humankind have different names. Aham, Self, I, Psyche, Atman,
ME, Ego etc.

Only in ending of this struggle completely, humankind can restore
order and peace in their midst. We all should deeply realise the utter futility
of our struggle for “Self” (ego) preservation. Unlike other creatures,
humankind with the help of its highly endowed brain power is able to
provide fairly easily for its physical preservation. For each one to have
food, clothing and shelter at its essential level does not demand any
excruciating struggle. Insensitivity to this legitimate need of others,
happens in our midst only due to our illegitimate “Self-centred” attitudes
and blind actions. In spite of the utter redundancy of “Self”- centred
struggle, humankind struggles endlessly in its lifetime. Beyond the natural
limits of ‘Creature-Comfort’, human civilisation has spun many irrelevant
hallucinations of value based goals and is eternally caught in its own net of
deceptions. Such a gigantic struggle of humankind is the outcome of
unquenchable ambitions and greeds. Each of our greedy “Self”(ego) is
unendingly ambitious to fulfil (fill-full) its “Self”-esteem. This is an
unending pursuit of self-aggrandizement. Humankind is unable to realise
that such a fulfilment does not really ‘exist’ in the scheme of creation. Why
because, the “Self” itself is the projected outcome of deception. A
deception can never be satisfied. Hence, the only solution for our Self Deception
IS Self-realisation. We have to deeply realise right in the midst of
our daily living that our “Self” is a falsehood. Our egoistic identity is but a
deception. All values and mental drives which have surfaced in our midst
based on images of Self-esteem and Self-pride have to be purged. There is
just no scope in the scheme of creation for “Self”- continuity. All shades of
“Self” (egoistic) defences have to be renounced.

Efforts which are totally free from the dark shadows of fuming and
fretting, sorrow and anguish can hardly befit to be called as struggle! Hence
for us to stay alive, it only calls for intelligent minimal efforts. To struggle,
is the sure sign of deep ignorance. The mind numbing struggle is not only
unnecessary but it is even harmful for our very existence!
Only this clear insight will allow the wholesome trust to well-up in
the human consciousness, which is presently poisoned by the notion of
“Self” (ego). Trust in the grand order of togetherness. Non-dual
togetherness, in which all other creatures seem to naturally participate, but
the same is resisted and rejected by the ego of humankind. Only in
togetherness, which is totally free of ego’s alienation ORDER IS. Alienation
is disorder. Obsessively believing in an imaginary individuality and its
separate destiny is implied by alienation. This notion gives rise to an
unnatural phobia of “Self” preservation. This is certainly a deception. This
is a morbid disorder at the very foundation of human perception. Until
this tricky (as well sticky) anomaly is nullified, no human problem can be
fully solved. This is why, each solution worked out to solve the existing
problems, in turn become problems themselves! For peace to be, human
living should happen free of such a “Self” concern and “Self”
consciousness.

All living creatures should yield (flow) free of struggle and resistance
to the grand-order of Creation. In all other creatures this implicit obedience
to the grand-order of togetherness (i.e. Unnaturally not fearing and vainly
trying psychically to resist the cycle of birth, growth, decay and death)
seems to be happening rather unconsciously. Where as, the nature seems
to have intended that humankind has to accept the flux of one’s own
existence along with the flux of other aspects of creation “fully
consciously”. “Arise and Awake” really has such a revolutionary
connotation.

Self-realisation is to mutate radically out of Self-deception.

He is best known for The Story of Civilization, 11 volumes written in collaboration with his wife, Ariel Durant, and published between 1935 and 1975. He was earlier noted for The Story of Philosophy (1926), described as “a groundbreaking work that helped to popularize philosophy”.

“I am attempting to face a question which our generation, perhaps more than any, seems always ready to ask and never able to answer — What is the meaning or worth of human life? Heretofore this question has been dealt with chiefly by theorists, from Ikhnaton and Lao-tse to Bergson and Spengler. The result has been a kind of intellectual suicide: thought, by its very development, seems to have destroyed the value and significance of life. The growth and spread of knowledge, for which so many idealists and reformers prayed, has resulted in a disillusionment which has almost broken the spirit of our race.

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – SOUL vs BODY DUALISM

 Traditional Indian School of Thought called Samkhya Doctrine proposes Soul – Body Dualism or separation of Body and its Soul. In my view, this Theory has no merit and has no validity. Samkhya Theory of Soul has no practical application in real World. Science does not speak about Soul or Spirit. It does not mean that Science endorses Soul – Body Dualism. Science provides information that disproves separation of Man into Body, Mind, and Soul. Indian School of Thought called DVAITA founded by Madhva explains the reasons for Soul – Matter Dualism. But, that separation or distinction is not applicable to Living Body or Living Things in which Soul represents the Vital, Animating, Life Principle. I can verify Soul vs Inanimate Matter Dualism. To the same extent, I reject Soul – Mind Dualism or Cartesian Dualism.
Shankara, Ramanuja, and Madhva invested their time to discuss about Soul and God without verifying basis for Human Existence in Natural World. It appears that they did not attach much importance to Samkhya Doctrine and formulated their own Doctrines of Advaita, Visishtadvaita, and Dvaita. Samkhya appears in The Bhagavad Gita, Chapter II, but the Doctrine gets discredited in other Chapters.

It may be correct to mention various parts of body and give names to different organs. But, the entire human organism is derived from Single, Fertilized Egg Cell. The anatomical organ called Brain is simply a part of Human Body and has no separate existence. At least, organs like Heart, Lungs, Kidneys, Liver, etc., can be transplanted into other Human Bodies. Brain cannot be separated from Body.

I ask my readers to provide the reasoning used in support of whatever Doctrine they believe.

THREE PRIMARY ORDERS:

For purposes of discussion, I ask my readers to state their position in clear, concise terms. For example, we have three major Schools of Indian Thought founded by Shankara, Ramanuja, and Madhva and all three of them agree about Three Primary Orders; 1. God, 2. Soul, and 3. Matter. Shankara claims that Matter including Human Body is Unreal and God and Soul are the same or completely identical. Ramanuja admits the reality of Matter and states Soul and Matter are Body of God and have no independent existence of their own and hence modify God. Madhva makes five, fundamental distinctions and claims Soul and Soul are different, Soul and God are different, Souls and Matter are different, and Matter and Matter are different.

I have to ascertain my reader’s position and not reader’s interpretation of Gurbani, Bhagavad Gita, or Sri. Aurobindo, or Theosophy. It may be of interest to my readers to know my birthplace as Mylapore, Madras. I visited International Theosophical Society, Adyar, Madras while I grew up in Madras. The Founder, Colonel Henry Steel Olcott is known to folks of my native place called Rajahmundry. Ms. Annie Besant of Theosophical Society visited Rajahmundry and founded a place of worship called ‘Divya Gyan Samaj'( Assembly For Divine Wisdom). The residential subdivision where this place of worship is located is named in honor of Colonel Olcott as Olcott Gardens or Alcot Gardens.

I support Sankara’s view in terms of Unity and not that of Identity. I support Ramanuja’s view of Matter and Soul modifying God, and to the same extent claim that Soul which resides in Human Body gets modified by Body and Mind to establish Unity between God, Soul, Mind, and Body. Matter, and Prakriti are still distinct from God, Soul, Mind, and Body. In fact, to formulate Living Matter and Living Things, God designed mechanisms for Energy Acquisition, Energy Exploitation, and Energy Transformation. All Living Things exploit Matter and Energy found in their external environment.

I again ask my readers to state positions using terms like God, Soul, and Matter to account for their interactions in Daily Life.

MIND – BODY DUALISM

Firstly, there is no Mind that has independent existence of its own. Mind and Body are always united for both parts are derived from Single, Fertilized Egg Cell. Secondly, this discussion about Soul or Spirit, Life and Living makes Fundamental Distinction or Dualism called Living vs Nonliving, Animate vs Inanimate, and Sensible vs Insensible. If there is no distinction between Matter and Matter, there is no need to discuss about Soul or Spirit.

The distinction between Living Matter and Nonliving Matter is based upon prevalence of certain chemical molecules like Nucleic Acids which are only associated with Living and not found in Matter present in places outside Earth. Man uses these Chemical Compounds to find traces of Life in places like Moon or Mars.

If Soul or Spirit is unchanging, immortal, or everlasting, it remains the same now, in the past, and in future. So let us talk about Soul or Spirit in relationship with Matter that exists today and that can be verified today.

WHAT IS LIFE? WHAT IS LIVING?

I ask my readers to come to better understanding of Life and Living as Life exists on planet Earth without any human intervention. The use of terms and statements in respect of Life and Living have to be supported by verified information provided by Natural Sciences. For example, Life and Living precede invention of phrases like “Akshara Purush”, “Akal Purakh”, and “Karta Purakh.” All said and done, Gautama Buddha, Jesus, Prophet Mohammed, Guru Nanak lived their mortal lives on Earth during the most recent Geological Time called Holocene Epoch or the Present Time. While Theology and Philosophy offer varied understanding of Man, Science offers information that is of practical use to all human beings without taking into account their religion, race, culture, and language. I served people of different religious faiths and nationalities for there is an understanding of Man that is verified.

Soul or Spirit, when viewed as Unchanging or Immutable Life Principle, does not support Theory of Evolution. For that reason, I ask readers to reconsider using phrases like “Evolving” Soul or Spirit. Sri. Aurobindo makes a variety of statements without validating any of his claims.

When we discuss terms like ‘Transcendent’ during our conversation about Life and Living, it  important to identify the Domain or Realm. All living things have well-defined domains in Nature called Natural Habitats. Earth is Life’s Natural Domain and all Phenomena are experienced on Earth. For example, Man can experience Natural Phenomenon of Rainbow only on planet Earth and nowhere else. For that reason, we have to make distinction between Natural Domain/Realm and Supernatural Realm/Domain. Moon, all other planets, Sun, Stars, and Galaxies belong to Supernatural Domain/Realm. The events experienced on Sun cannot be experienced on Earth. Sunrise and Sunset experienced on Earth cannot be experienced on other planets for all of them have different rotational and spin characteristics.

EARTH DAY 2017 – CELEBRATION OF MOTHER EARTH

The First Earth Day Celebration was held on April 22, 1970. It has now become a global tradition to celebrate Planet Earth as man’s only home in this vast universe of unknown dimensions. In Indian tradition, I pay my tribute to Mother Earth, Goddess Earth often admiringly described as “BHU DEVI” or “PRITHVI MATA.”

Man’s existence on surface of planet Earth demands experience of Flat Earth with Arched Dome on which Man observes the apparent motions of Sun, Moon, other planets, and stars. Man experiences alternating periods of Day and Night, and experiences changing Seasons in consistent manner without experiencing the true or real motions of Earth.

Earth Day, an event to increase public awareness of the world’s environmental problems, is celebrated in the United States for the first time. Millions of Americans, including students from thousands of colleges and universities, participated in rallies, marches, and educational programs.

Earth Day was the brainchild of Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin, a staunch environmentalist who hoped to provide unity to the grassroots environmental movement and increase ecological awareness. “The objective was to get a nationwide demonstration of concern for the environment so large that it would shake the political establishment out of its lethargy,” Senator Nelson said, “and, finally, force this issue permanently onto the national political agenda.” Earth Day indeed increased environmental awareness in America, and in July of that year the Environmental Protection Agency was established by special executive order to regulate and enforce national pollution legislation.

On April 22, 1990, the 20th anniversary of Earth Day, more than 200 million people in 141 countries participated in Earth Day celebrations.
Earth Day has been celebrated on different days by different groups internationally. The United Nations officially celebrates it on the vernal equinox, which usually occurs about March 21.

I am presenting a view of ‘Three Primary Orders’ that is not consistent with Shankara’s Non-Dualism or ‘ADVAITA’ doctrine. In his view, Soul and God are real and Matter is unreal, or product of Grand Illusion. His view demands separation of Man; 1.Body is unreal, and 2. Soul is real. His doctrine of Advaita lays its emphasis on Identity of Soul and God whereas I stress importance of UNITY between the two distinct entities called Man and God. Soul enters Man to establish Unity between Man and God for God remains Unmanifest in Physical World and Universe of Matter. If God, the Divine, Supreme Principle is present everywhere at the same time, the Divine is present in both Material and Immaterial Dimensions. I describe God as ‘Master Architect’ who uses Matter, Energy, Time, and Space in Creative manner to manifest His Creation.

Aurobindo Ghosh (1872-1950), Indian mystic philosopher, in his book titled ‘LETTERS ON YOGA’, page 576, writes, “The individual is only an entity in a much vaster totality just like you: You have lots of cells in your body; each cell has its own consciousness and you have a consciousness of your total individuality, though made up of all these small cellular consciousness.”

It is apparent from his writing that Man’s Individuality is made up of consciousness contributed by Independent, Living Cells of his entire organism for they constitute the Building Blocks of Human Body. For that reason, I have to use the concept of ‘Whole Cell’ to describe the concept of ‘Whole Man.’

I speak of Spirituality Science which holds that ‘Man is Real’. As per the theory or philosophical doctrine called ‘REALISM’, Individual Things exist independently of the mind’s perception of them. The term “REAL” describes the fact of existence independent of both human mind and the imaginative power of the Individual Object. WHOLE SLAVE – WHOLE LABOR – MAY DAY CELEBRATION:

On Monday, May 01, 2017, Senior Alien celebrates International Labour Day, International Workers’ Day, or May Day by sending ‘MAYDAY’ Distress Signal for he has no legal right to his wages or earnings contributed to Public Trust Fund that pays Monthly Retirement Benefit to workers who attained Full Retirement Age.

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA – A SLAVE STATE:

This article is updated and is revised in response to “The Notice of Slavery Award” sent by Social Security Administration(SSA), Great Lakes Program Service Center, Harold Washington Social Security Center, 600 West Madison Street, Chicago IL – 60661-2474  on August 16, 2014. The Notice approved the Claim for retirement benefits at monthly benefit rate of $1,347.80. After duly approving the Claim for Retirement Insurance, the Department states that it cannot and will not pay the benefits because of the applicant’s alien status. In other words, this Senior Alien has to labor for the rest of his life against his own will for SSA would not pay him the monthly benefit which it has approved as per the US Laws. 

President Abraham Lincoln issued the ‘Emancipation Proclamation’ in September 1862 that went into effect on January 01, 1863 freeing the slaves in all territory still at War with the Union. The term ‘Free State’ refers to any State of the U.S. in which slavery was forbidden before the Civil War. The term ‘Slave State’ refers to any of the States in which slavery was legal before the Civil War. After abolishing slavery, the United States Department of Labor was established in 1913 to administer and enforce statutes that promote the welfare, improve the working conditions of all laborers or workforce. In modern economic life, the term laborer describes all manual workers whose work is characterized largely by physical exertion, and especially it refers to workers who labor to earn wages on an hourly basis without the benefit of a contractual agreement with their employers. The term Labor Law refers to legislation that affects workers, and the conditions of their employment. Labor Law is the body of law applied to such matters as employment, remuneration, and conditions of work. In its most comprehensive sense, the Labor Law includes Old Age and Disability Insurance. The characteristic of all labor is that it consumes some part of the short days and years of human life. The essence of all labor is that of the time and life it consumes to deliver a wage or earning to support the life it consumes.

THE U.S. SOCIAL SECURITY ACT OF 1935:

The U.S. Social Security Act(1935) had established retirement insurance plan called Social Security which is a public program providing for economic security and welfare of persons who make contributions to fund the program. The Health Insurance Plan called Medicare was added in 1965. It is administered by the Social Security Administration(SSA) of the Department of Health and Human Services. Medicare provides basic hospital insurance for persons aged 65 and over after they make contributions to fund the program. The Federal Insurance Contributions Act(FICA) ensures that the wages are reported by the employers and SSA and Medicare deductions are made from the paychecks of the employees before they receive their paychecks or wages, or earnings. The worker pays 6.2 percent of the earnings as SSA contribution and the employer pays 6.2 percent of the wage earned as SSA contribution to provide retirement income to that worker. Similarly, 2.9 percent is paid into Medicare Program, half by the worker and half by the employer.

ALIEN WORKERS PAY SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE CONTRIBUTIONS:

The United States employs a large number of alien workers and millions of these workers are issued paychecks from which billions of dollars are deducted and flow directly to the Social Security Administration(SSA) every year. For example, for the year 2007, about $11.2 billion went into the Social Security Trust Fund, and $2.6 billion went into Medicare. These funds are utilized to pay the legal residents of the United States who receive their Social Security income and the Medicare health insurance benefits. At the same time, the alien workers who do not become legal residents of the United States will not receive any income from the wages they earned while they labored on the soil of the United States. These alien workers cannot participate in the Health Insurance Exchange, a new program introduced by President Obama through a Law known as the Affordable Health Care Act that goes into effect on October 01, 2013. Several of these alien workers have already fully subscribed to the public health insurance program called Medicare and their contributions are taken by payroll deductions. These alien workers aged 65 and over are denied access to health care insurance even while they still continue to labor on the U.S. soil and still are paying into the System that gives them no benefit. These alien workers aged 66 and over have attained their full retirement age working in the United States under the provisions of the U.S. Labor Law which established the principles of equal opportunity and protection from discrimination based upon age, sex, race, or country of origin. It is apparent that the United States has institutionalized the practice of slavery by denying the retirement income and health insurance benefit to those alien workers who made their lifetime contributions according to the laws enforced by the country.

WHAT IS SLAVERY???

The term servant is used to describe a person employed to perform services to earn a wage, or income by providing labor. The term ‘Slavery’ refers to  condition of a slave, serf, or the like which is stated as ‘Servitude’. The term ‘Servitude’ is specifically used to refer to labor in which the person who performs the labor has no right to his earnings from labor. The term ‘Bondage’ implies any condition of subjugation or depriving a person the right to his property or earning. Serf is any person who is oppressed or has no freedom. Both Servitude, and Bondage involve subjection of a person to some force, compulsion, or influence that takes away freedom, and  dignity of the human being who by his birth is thought to be born free, and equal. In the United States, the Nation, or the State has institutionalized the practice of Slavery by enacting Laws that would empower the State to withhold the property or wage paid by the employer to his employee without any formal approval or consent of the affected worker who performs labor. At the full age of retirement of 66-years, the alien worker who spent the hours, the days, the weeks, the months, and the years of his life performing labor in the United States, gets denied all the earnings he earned for his retirement to lead a life in his Old Age with basic human dignity. I have no term other than that of “SLAVE STATE” to describe the country that is holding people in a condition called Bondage and Servitude.

At least in Indian tradition, epic poems of Valmiki Ramayana refer to Vidhi, Daivam, and Niyati as Knower/Power foreordaining of all that will happen. Most Hindus worship Lord Rama and glorify Him as Absolute Reality or Ultimate Truth. And yet, Prince Rama’s Life Journey proceeds as if all His actions were Predestined or foreordained.

What is Existence?

Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Professor of Anatomy and Physiology, later, Dean, Harvard School of Medicine ( 1847- 53) states, “To live is to function and that is all there is in living.” I ask my readers to read Human Physiology and Human Anatomy to grasp the meaning of his words.

For all living things exist as Individuals with Individuality, the purpose of existence needs definition on individualistic basis. However, it must be noted that bodies do not comprise the ‘Whole of Existence’. For that reason, we have to ask, 1.What is it existing?, 2. Who is it existing?, 3. Where is it existing?, 4. When is it existing?, and 5. Why is it existing?

I describe reality of man in terms of ‘Matter’, an indispensable factor in the constitution of physical thing. Matter is associated with the idea of quantity, the basic magnitudes such as Mass, Space, and Time. That which is or has Matter in it necessarily occupies Space. While Time and Space are thought of as ‘immaterial’ dimensions, existence of material things is always influenced by Time and Space. For example, the era of Dinosaurs is entirely different from present time. Planet Earth is not the same as it existed in times before. In fact, Earth is never present at the same location in Space at any given two instants while man may experience changing Seasons in consistent manner.

It is not easy or practical to define individualistic purpose in life as life is always influenced by cosmic events such as ‘BOLIDE’ collision which in the past wiped out the entire, thriving population of Dinosaurs.

Fatalism involves the principle of subjugation to God’s Will. I am claiming that God may choose Fateful Event to uplift people who endure subjugation for they have no other choice.

Fate and Karma depend upon two different kinds of operating agencies or powers.

Karma is action performed by Individual and experience of its consequences. To that extent, Individual can modify Karma by performing actions without desire for fruits of his actions. Karma is not operated by an external agency or power while human existence is always conditioned by dependence on external source of energy. Karma is not inevitable for it involves Individual’s choice for action and behavior among a range of options available under external circumstances.

Fate is operated by an external agency or power and there is no escape from the consequences of Fateful events. In all human cultures, people have different attitudes when they submit themselves to power called Fate. Jews and Christians hope for Messiah or Savior. Hindus wait for Reincarnation of Lord Vishnu. Buddhists may wait for Rebirth of Maitreyi or Avalokitesvara. It gives people sense of Hope, and people acquire qualities like Patience and Perseverance. I ask readers to recognize the two dimensions of Fate, 1. Individualistic Fate, and 2. Group or Collective Fate that involves a very large population sharing certain common identity such as race, language, religion, nationality, or place of residence.

I am using information provided by Science to predict Doomsday Event predestined for people living in Shanghai City of China. Shanghai is world’s largest City or most populous City with an estimated population of over 24 million within City limits or boundaries. It is not about Fate of random Individuals but about Fate of entire population of modern, urban center of human population.

FATE vs KARMA

I am totally dismayed by Sri. Aurobindo’s statement on Fate. However, he is entitled to his views as long as he makes distinction between his personal opinion and the traditions of Land. Karma is not Indian explanation of Fate. Apparently, Sri. Aurobindo fails to understand the concepts of Fate and Karma apart from not knowing as to what Indians generally think on such issues. India is often described as The Land of Karma.

Generally, Indians speak of three kinds of Karma, 1. Sanchita or Sabeeja Karma, the Karma Balance with which newborn arrives in life, 2. Agami Karma, the Karma Balance that is not yet experienced but likely to be experienced during the course of one’s lifetime ( both present and future), and 3. Prarabdha Karma, the Karma Balance that is being experienced in present condition of life at given time.

Fate describes Power or Agency ( in Indian Tradition, this Power or Agency may not be the same as GOD) which determines the outcome of events before they occur. Neither the individual, nor God may have the ability to influence or change or alter the ‘Outcome’ predetermined by Fate or Destiny and it speaks of inevitability of the outcome if it is destined to happen.

The Book of Revelation, Chapter 18 describes sudden downfall of ‘Babylon’ due to Catastrophe, Disaster, or Doom. A person disposed to predicting Doom, Disaster, Catastrophe, etc., is known as Doomsayer. For that reason, I described the reason as to why I exist; my existence is entirely predetermined by Fate or Destiny which shapes outcome of future events. In Monday’s early hours, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt released coordinated statements, announcing a diplomatic break with the tiny-yet-wealthy peninsular nation of Qatar. They cut air, sea and land links and ordered Qatari officials and nationals stationed in their countries to return home. Qatar, with just over 300,000 citizens, has played an outsize role on the world stage because of its great wealth of oil and natural gas. Global oil prices wobbled Monday as both sides dug in their heels. Already, as my colleagues reported, panic over a Saudi blockade of Qatar’s only land border saw supermarket shelves in Doha cleaned out by spooked residents. The move is a reflection of long-running frustrations with the Qataris, who the Saudis and Emiratis claim are supporting terrorist groups as well as being far too cordial with Iran, their regional archrival. A complicated and uncertain state of affairs is playing out, with far-reaching stakes — Qatar, after all, is home to a crucial forward base for U.S. Central Command. Here’s our attempt at a quick primer on what you need to know. What’s behind the dispute? For years now, officials in Riyadh and Abu Dhabi have been angry over what they perceive to be Qatar’s rogue, activist foreign policy. Unlike neighboring Bahrain, for example, which largely toes the Saudi line, Qatar has diverged from other members in the Gulf Cooperation Council, a bloc of six Arab monarchies, and used its vast coffers to project its own influence far and wide. After the political upheavals of the Arab Spring, for instance, Qatar aligned itself with Islamist political parties such as Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, believing it right to back movements with genuine popular support. Much to the ire of its neighbors, Qatar’s state-funded news network Al Jazeera also seemed to take up the cause of these groups, often championing democracy and dissent in a region ruled by secular autocrats or unaccountable royals. And Qatar was among the most active backers of Islamist fighters in rebellions in Syria and Libya. Now, Qatar’s critics say it has failed to rein in its support for certain Islamist militant groups — including Hamas and the main al-Qaeda-linked organization in Syria. The Qataris were also accused of backing Yemen’s Houthi rebels, a startling claim given that Qatar, until the day before, was part of the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis, who are loosely backed by Iran. “The countries of the region can be divided into two camps: one that seeks to advance its foreign interests through support of Islamists, and one whose foreign policy is guided by opposition to the rise of Islamists,” wrote Middle East expert Hassan Hassan. Qatar, in Hassan’s scheme, falls into the former camp, while the Saudis and Emiratis are in the latter. Qatar’s foreign ministry called the measures “unjustified” in a statement and said the decision to sever ties was a violation of the country’s sovereignty, and “based on claims and allegations that have no basis in fact.” Saudi Arabia and, to a lesser extent, the U.A.E. also support various rebel groups and Islamist factions in Middle East conflicts. But the two countries have stood against political Islam in places like Egypt, championing current President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, who came to power in a 2014 coup that ousted the ruling Muslim Brotherhood and was followed up by a vicious, bloody crackdown on Islamists. The embattled Yemeni government, which is almost wholly propped up by Riyadh, the Emirati-backed leadership in eastern Libya and the Indian Ocean archipelago of the Maldives — whose president increasingly seems a Saudi client — all joined the break in relations with Qatar. The U.A.E., in particular, has bridled at Qatar’s continued role in backing Islamists in Libya and elsewhere and appears to have led the charge in pushing for Qatari isolation. There are a number of theories for why things have drifted toward such an extreme. Two separate possible hacking incidents have framed the escalating feud. First, a statement was posted on an official Qatari site that attributed comments to the emir that were sympathetic to Iran and Shiite militant group Hezbollah. Even after the Qataris rejected the report and said it was the creation of hackers, Saudi and Emirati outlets continued to spread it as fact. Meanwhile, the leaked emails of the Emirati envoy in Washington seem to show his country’s long-running desire to counter Qatari influence. Some experts believe Mohammed bin Zayed, the influential crown prince of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, has found a willing and eager partner in the youthful Saudi deputy crown prince, Mohammad bin Salman, who has presided over Saudi Arabia’s marked foreign policy assertiveness in recent years and pushed for a regional anti-Iran alliance. In a fascinating tidbit reported by the Financial Times, Qatari officials apparently paid close to $1 billion in ransom for the release of a Qatari falconry party abducted while hunting in southern Iraq. The bulk of the funds allegedly made their way to Iranian officials and affiliated Shiite militias — payments that were “the straw that broke the camel’s back” for Qatar’s critics in the Gulf, according to a source quoted by the British newspaper. But a leading driver also has to be President Trump, whose friendly visit to Riyadh last month and embrace of the Saudi agenda in the Middle East seems to have emboldened officials there. The Saudis and Emiratis, said Andrew Bowen, a visiting fellow at the conservative American Enterprise Institute, “saw this as a key moment after Trump’s visit to bring Qatar to heel.” According to a leading Emirati journalist, officials in Abu Dhabi want to extract huge concessions from Doha, including the shuttering of Qatari media outlets abroad and the abandoning of Qatar’s independent, maverick foreign policy. What’s at stake? It’s hard to gauge what happens next. Two GCC countries caught in the middle of the spat — Oman and Kuwait — may try to exert what limited clout they have to push for a compromise. The United States could do so as well, though the Trump administration made little meaningful comment about the impasse on Monday. It may have to, though, given that the sprawling al-Udeid air base on Qatari soil is a pivotal staging ground for U.S. counterterror operations. Beyond U.S. support, Qatar has significant fiscal reserves, retains the political support of the Turkish government and is a key energy partner for countries like Russia and China. The Saudis and Emiratis may realize that isolating Qatar is no easy feat. “They think they can strangle Qatar and get it to capitulate,” said Theodore Karasik, a senior analyst at Gulf State Analytics, to BuzzFeed News. “This could backfire on them completely. The number one problem is that it will force Qatar to seek new security partnerships with Turkey. Doha can also turn to Iran.” “I do worry that they’re going to misjudge each other’s positions, which could lead to this conflict taking a little bit longer to play out,” Bowen told Today’s WorldView. The spat also dramatizes the complexity of the divisions in the Middle East, which commentators in the United States often try to reduce to a simple binary between a Sunni Arab-bloc led by Saudi Arabia and Shiite Iran. “The tension between Qatar and its neighbors shows that the old geopolitical lines can no longer explain the Middle East,” wrote Hassan. It remains to be seen how Trump, who exulted in his grand, lavish reception in Riyadh, will reckon with this challenge. After all, the White House insisted the president had “united the entire Muslim world in a way that it really hasn’t been in many years,” as one Trump aide put it last month. This week’s events show how laughably false that assertion was.

The last such Major Extinction Event happened about 35 million years ago and contributed to Eocene Mass Extinction. In my analysis, Tibetans enjoy Natural Freedom and lead Lifestyles characterized by Natural Sense of Independence as it is entirely preserved by Natural Forces operating in Tibet. Tibetans have chosen a Spiritual Leader called the Dalai Lama to manage their lives both as individuals and as a national group. Succession of Political Power in the Institution of Dalai Lama depends upon Natural Selection predetermined by Dalai Lama’s Living Spirit which is not influenced by Human Choice or Human Action. In Tibet’s long political history, foreign conquests by Mongol Dynasty and Ch’ing or Qing Dynasty of China have not altered Natural Freedom and Natural Lifestyle of Independence that shapes Tibetan Existence. Red China’s Military Conquest and Occupation of Tibet since 1950s cannot be described as Natural Event. Communist takeover of Tibetan National Affairs and Tibetan Governance remains “UNNATURAL” Event, for it is not shaped by Natural Force that still prevails in sustaining Tibetan Identity. I foresee Nature’s Plan for Natural Freedom in Tibet coming into operation by executing Regime Change in Beijing.

Nature will counteract against Red China’s use of Physical Force that led to Tibet’s Occupation. Beijing invited this devastating Disaster, Catastrophe, Calamity, Cataclysmic Event, Apocalypse, or Doom because of her own Evil Action using Physical Force in Unjust, Unfair, and irresponsible manner. Beijing cannot ward off the impending Disaster by paying ransom. Beijing will experience Regime Change not because military actions of other nations of this World.

RUSSIA’S POPIGAI METEOR CRASH LINKED TO MASS EXTINCTION

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — New evidence implicates one of Earth’s biggest impact craters in a mass extinction that occurred 33.7 million years ago, according to research presented here Wednesday (June 11) at the annual Goldschmidt geochemistry conference.

Researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles precisely dated rocks from beneath the Popigai impact crater in remote Siberia to the Eocene epoch mass extinction that occurred 33.7 million years ago. Popigai crater is one of the 10 biggest impact craters on Earth, and in 2012, Russian scientists claimed the crater harbors a gigantic industrial diamond deposit.

The new age, which is later than other estimates, means the Eocene extinction — long blamed on climate change — now has another prime suspect: an “impact winter.” Meteorite blasts can trigger a deadly global chill by blanketing the Earth’s atmosphere with tiny particles that reflect the sun’s heat. “I don’t think this will be the smoking gun, but it reopens the door to Popigai being involved in the mass extinction,” said lead study author Matt Wielicki, a UCLA graduate student.

This isn’t the first time flying space rocks have been implicated in the Eocene’s mass die-offs. Other possible culprits besides Popigai crater include three smaller Earth-meteorite smashups between 35 million and 36 million years ago: Chesapeake Bay crater offshore Virginia, Toms Canyon crater offshore New Jersey and Mistastin crater in Labrador, Canada.

Previously, all four craters were ruled out because of their ages. Earlier dating attempts had pinned Popigai’s impact age at 35.7 million years ago, Wielicki said. And 2 million years is too much of a time lag between a meteorite blast and disappearing species, he said. The cosmic impact that killed the dinosaurs 65 million years ago coincides in time with its extinction by just 33,000 years, according to the most precise dating techniques available.

With no meteorite to blame for the Eocene mass extinction, scientists focused on climate change. In this case, global cooling killed off many species, researchers think.

Here’s how they can tell: By measuring isotopes of oxygen, carbon and other elements in Eocene-age rocks, researchers can estimate Earth’s past temperature and greenhouse-gas levels. (Isotopes are elements with different numbers of neutrons in their nuclei.) The signal from the Eocene shows the epoch started off extremely warm and then swung toward colder, drier conditions before the big extinction event. However, a sharp spike in these climate signals at the end of the Eocene hints at short-lived but extreme global cooling, followed by a rebound to warmer temperatures.

“The age of the crater matches perfectly with that [short-term] global change,” Wielicki said.

Wielicki thinks the Popigai impact created a global icehouse, similar to the climate disasters seen after enormous volcanic eruptions or the dinosaur-killing impact. The meteoritic crash could have pumped massive amounts of sunlight-reflecting sulfur droplets into the atmosphere, he said. The planet’s “quick” recovery, in geologic time, set plants and animals on an evolutionary path to modern species.

The end of the Eocene was the last big mass extinction in Earth’s history. More than 90 percent of snails disappeared, sea urchins were hard hit and the earliest toothed whales died off, which eventually would be replaced by modern whales. The dramatic shift of European mammals, called the “Grand Coupure,” occurred soon afterward, following Eocene-Oligocene transition.
